Mass retailers confirm their interest in organic products. Following the introduction of a variety of children clothes made from organic cotton, Swedish clothing chain H&M is launching its first skincare range with certified organic ingredients.

The range debuting in stores at the beginning of March includes shower gel, body scrub, body lotion, hand cream and lip balm. The products are available in the fragrance combinations of raspberry and melon or lavender and mint. The entire range is based on natural and organic ingredients and is certified by Ecocert, Europe’s biggest certification body for organic and natural cosmetics, and is accompanied by make-up and toilet bags made from organic cotton. All the products are sold in recyclable polyethylene packaging.

It felt like a natural step, since we’ve worked with organic cotton garments for a few seasons now. There’s also a strong demand from our customers for organics, and I hope they will be as excited as I am about the new products,” said Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s head of design.

All the products are available at H&M’s affordable prices: shower gel EUR 4.90, body lotion EUR 4.90, body scrub EUR 4.90, hand cream EUR 3.90, lip balm EUR 3.90, toilet bag EUR 6.90, make-up bag EUR 3.90.

The introduction of skincare products with certified organic ingredients comes at a time when sustainability is even more central to H&M’s work, with a commitment to increase the use of organic cotton by 50% each year until 2013.
