For the Otzlab fragrance, Metapack developed a set of packaging components combining stainless steel, polypropylene (PP), and resin. The design incorporates a fastening system that suspends the bottle vertically within a metal frame while allowing it to be easily removed.
Based on the design provided by the brand, the development focused on a key technical challenge: securely suspending the bottle at the center of the frame while ensuring that it could be easily detached.
The frame is made of 1.5 mm-thick stamped 304 stainless steel. The Oteyza logo is embossed on the front, while the Otzlab logo is screen-printed in white on the back.
A quarter-turn fastening system
A polypropylene (PP) insert fitted beneath the shoulders of the metal frame allows the bottle to be attached and removed with a simple quarter-turn. The mechanism engages with a PP ring, supplied separately by Metapack and fitted to the glass bottle manufactured by Bormioli Luigi.
The cap is machined from 304 stainless steel and incorporates a PP insert that secures it to the pump through a friction-fit connection.
Eight resin colors to differentiate the fragrances
The cap is topped with a cast resin sphere bonded to the metal component. To distinguish the eight fragrances, Metapack developed eight resin colors, each featuring a randomly patterned veining effect.
The finishing was one of the main challenges of the development. Achieving the desired finish was one of the project’s main challenges. The stainless steel components were first sandblasted and then given a matte black coating using physical vapor deposition (PVD). A fingerprint-resistant varnish, applied by lacquering, completes the surface treatment.
Metapack identifies the development of the resin colors, along with sandblasting and the application of the fingerprint-resistant coating, as the most demanding aspects of the project.
