In line with the Happy Cosmetics trend, where skincare and make-up products are expected to have a positive impact both on physical appearances and well-being and emotions, MS BEAUTiLAB has partnered with Greentech to provide scientific evidence that their foundation containing pigments treated with the C8-silk lipoamino acids (MaestraColors+ Safe) [1] induces a significant increase in self-esteem and pleasant emotion, and a significant decrease in general stress.

To that end, the two companies carried out a randomized crossover study with the aim to evaluate and compare the effects of two foundations, one based on traditional pigments and the other based on C8-silk lipoamino acids, on psychophysiological parameters after five days of application. [2]

Assessment of self-esteem, stress, mood and emotion using psychological tests, as well as and evaluation of salivary cortisol concentrations were realized on 40 healthy women. Four saliva samples were taken on the first day and the last day: on the awakening, 30 minutes after the awakening (during the foundation application), 1 hour after the foundation application and at 07 p.m.

Five days of daily application of the foundation containing the pigments treated with the C8-silk lipoamino acids (MaestraColors+ Safe) induced a significant increase (P < 0.001) in self-esteem and pleasant emotion (P < 0.05), and a significant decrease in general stress (P < 0.05). This was not the case after the application of the traditional foundation. Cortisol concentrations presented a pronounced diurnal rhythm whatever the foundation used. At the beginning of the study, no significant differences were observed between the groups. However, cortisol concentrations measured 30 min and 1 h after the application of the traditional foundation were significantly lower (P < 0.05: C6.2, P < 0.05 C6.3, respectively) than those reported after the application of the foundation containing treated pigments.

As a conclusion, results show that incorporation of C8-silk lipoamino acid as agent of pigment functionalization brings new benefits to a foundation. “Adopting a psychophysiological approach, which is not invasive to the subjects, we show the measurement of cortisol at the same time that psychological indicators provide a scientific approach to examine the beneficial effects of a cosmetic product,” highlights MS BEAUTiLAB.
