International cosmetics packaging provider Quadpack has started trialling a new concept of make-up packaging using Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology.

Still on the drawing board, the LED Make-Up Compact features directional lighting to help consumers apply the product anywhere, no matter how dark the surroundings. The company’s aim is to produce a pack that is practical, original and very trendy. The LED light is intuitively switched on by pressing a soft touch button on the lid.

Cool white light provides no harsh reflections, glare or shadows, making the experience of the product more sympathetic than when using the bright, unforgiving light of the average powder room,” claims the company in a release. “Built-in lighting offers endless possibilities. For example, once switched on, a hidden logo or message could be incorporated in the interior.

Over the next few months, Quadpack intends to explore the host of options the technology opens to brand owners, to surprise and engage their target audience.

Devices with LED lighting can be simply recharged at home, in the office or in the car using a USB cable. They have low power requirements and are mercury free.

Plans to develop the concept are pending market reaction during the trial phase.
