Beauty app developer Perfect Corp. is on the hunt for the next superstar influencer. The developer behind the virtual beauty app YouCam Makeup has launched a contest dubbed the "YouCam Beauty Star" in a bid to seek out the industry’s next big thing.

The competition, which runs through June 23, allows beauty fans to upload an image using the AI (artificial intelligence) and AR (augmented reality) app, capturing their own unique style by using various virtual makeup products and effects. Fans can then vote for their favorite looks via an online gallery, and a panel of judges including model and social influencer Cassandra Bankson will judge the selection, choosing an eventual winner. The winning look will then be made available for the app’s 730 million global users to download and use.

"Beauty is all about self-expression and experimentation and we want YouCam Makeup to help fans discover and play with beauty in a whole new way," said Perfect Corp. founder and CEO Alice Chang in a statement. "The options are endless and we can’t wait to see the creativity that our fans come up with."

The move comes months after Perfect Corp unveiled a new concept called ‘Beauty 3.0’ as part of its strategy to focus hard on using AI and AR solutions to transform the cosmetics retail experience. The plan, which was announced at the Consumer Electronics Conference (CES) in Las Vegas in January, touched on concepts including an ‘AI Smart Shade Finder’ designed to offer recommended foundation shades, and an ‘AI Skin Diagnostic’ created to monitor dermatological concerns.
