An extremophile algae to turn back the clock of time
As the concept of longevity — focused on preventing and repairing the root causes of cellular aging — rapidly supersedes the traditional anti-aging approach, Mibelle Biochemistry’s EpiSnow [1] is designed to enhance skin resilience and help turn back the biological clock by targeting seven key hallmarks of aging.
Derived from extremophile algae that thrive under the intense UV radiation and nutrient-scarce conditions of snowy mountain peaks, EpiSnow protects the skin from premature aging processes and promotes a more youthful appearance.
The active ingredient originates from snow algae (Coenochloris signiensis), a single-celled organism uniquely adapted to extreme conditions, capable of thriving at temperatures close to 0°C. Snow algae grow in areas where there is either an Alpine or polar climate and in which there is snow all year round. The normally green algae adapt to the extreme environmental conditions. When the UV radiation is increased in early summer the algae turn red as they produce considerably more carotenoid pigments than chlorophyll ones. The production of other secondary metabolites such as biopolymers, antifreeze glycoproteins (AFGPs), stress modifiers and osmotically active amino acids and sugars also help these extremophile algae to survive in their habitat.
In vitro tests have shown EpiSnow’s ability to stimulate the longevity gene Klotho and activate AMPK, the master switch of the cell’s energy system. It improves skin structure, slows the aging process of skin cells, reduces the effects of aging on skin proteins and increases collagen production.
In vivo tests have shown a reduction in senescent cells. According to Mibelle, EpiSnow strengthens the skin barrier in extreme conditions and acts against sunspots, while also having a smoothing and moisturizing effect.
A plant-derived glycogen for hair growth
Also showcased at in-cosmetics Global, PhytoSpherix Hair [2] is a plant-based glycogen sourced from non-GMO sweet corn, suitable for vegan formulations and approved under COSMOS standards. Backed by in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo testing, it enhances the natural energy of hair follicles, helping to promote hair growth, density and overall vitality.
