The fragrance manufacturer and cosmetic ingredient supplier is set to acquire a stake in Microcaps AG, a Swiss start-up specializing in fragrance micro-encapsulation.

Microcaps has developed and patented cutting-edge precision microencapsulation technology, especially in the area of non-alcoholic fine fragrance products. Instead of being diluted in an alcohol base, the fragrance concentrate is encapsulated in natural alginate microbeads suspended in an alcohol-free aqueous formula. Microcaps recently collaborated with Guerlain on the development of the Aqua Allegoria Perle line.

Encapsulation technology plays a pivotal role in enhancing fragrance performance in a wide range of products, from fine fragrances to hygiene products. According to Givaudan, they enable longer-lasting scents and improve consumer enjoyment.

Encapsulation is one of the most transformative technologies in our field,” highlighted Jeremy Compton, Global Head of Science & Technology Fragrances at Givaudan.

We are thrilled to join forces with Givaudan, the global leader in fragrance and beauty. This collaboration allows us to scale our technology and bring scientific precision to a wider market. Working together with Givaudan opens new doors for innovation. Together, we can redefine what high precision encapsulation means for the fragrance and beauty industries,” commented Alessandro Ofner and Michael Hagander, founders and Co-CEOs of Microcaps.
