The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. has named former Procter & Gamble (P&G) executive Carl Haney as Executive Vice President, Global Research and Development, Corporate Product Innovation, Package Development, replacing Harvey Gedeon who plans to retire.

Mr. Haney, who graduated from the Vanderbilt University with a degree in Chemical Engineering, has been working at P&G for more than 20 years. Most recently he was Vice President, R&D, Male Grooming, Gillette, Braun and Devices, leading teams in all aspects of innovation, including product, packaging, process development and engineering.

Carl Haney held various R&D leadership roles at P&G and has led the group’s innovation teams in Latin America, Europe and Asia. “Mr. Haney known for growing businesses, brands and innovation organizations and creating strong external innovation partnerships,” said The Estée Lauder Companies in a release.

Harvey Gedeon, Estée Lauder’s current R&D head, will remain with the company to work closely with Carl Haney throughout the transition.

Carl Haney’s appointment will be effective as of January 1, 2012. He will report to Estée Lauder’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Fabrizio Freda.
