1. Berlin Packaging: an innovative material made from hazelnut shells

Among the new products unveiled by Berlin Packaging at Cosmoprof Bologna was Xoco, an innovative polypropylene (PP) material derived from upcycled hazelnut shells (from the manufacturing of confectionery). Developed for the beauty industry, Xoco enables the creation of both functional and decorative components distinguished by visible organic particles, giving each piece a unique aesthetic while strengthening its sustainability narrative.

Developed in collaboration with Krill Design, a company specializing in transforming organic waste, Xoco is composed of a polypropylene (PP) base blended with 10% hazelnut shells. The incorporation of this organic content does not compromise the material’s recyclability.

2. Geka: low carbon mascara solutions

Drawing on its expertise in injection molding, decoration, and mascara brush design, Geka has introduced a collection of six mascaras inspired by the world of music. For each formula, the bottle, cap, wiper, and stem are made entirely from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. The packaging is enhanced with tactile and decorative effects using Geka’s Shadow Printing technique, which enables 360° decoration without additional ink or foil and can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 26%.

Paired with Geka’s latest-generation brushes, the collection highlights the company’s ability to unite technical performance, refined aesthetics, and a strong sustainability focus.

3. HCP Packaging, a cellulose-derived mascara fibre

At Cosmoprof, HCP Packaging introduced FusionFibre Technology, an innovative fibre made from regenerated cellulose derived from FSC-certified Swedish pine and spruce. Offering a renewable, fast-growing alternative to the synthetic materials traditionally used in mascara and brow brushes, this fibre supports a more sustainable approach to applicator design.

Its micro-porous structure functions like a microscopic sponge, capturing more formula in a single dip and releasing it in controlled, ultra-thin layers for buildable application and precise definition. When in contact with mascara, brow gels, or tubing systems, the fibres soften instantly, delivering a cushioned glide while preserving separation and accuracy.

4. Pennellifaro, new 3D printed concepts

The Italian cosmetic brush specialist showcased its Futura Avant Lab concept, which harnesses the versatility of digital 3D printing to create designs that blend functionality, innovation, and creativity. Recognized last year at the MakeUp in Paris trade show, the concept was presented alongside the brand new Futura Sculpture collection — another practical application of the company’s additive manufacturing technology. The collection features sculptural, highly customizable applicators with a bold architectural identity.

Pennelli Faro has also expanded its brush care range with new cleansing solutions, including a vegetable-based soap, a refill system, a liquid shampoo, and a portable antibacterial spray—supporting effective hygiene and long-term tool maintenance.

5. Shinkwang M&P: an air mist gas-free spray system

Eliminating aerosols from spray packaging, Shinkwang M&P’s Air Mist Gas-Free Spray System scooped a Cosmopack Award in the Packaging: Design & Materials Category.

The packaging employs a gas-free spray system powered by mechanical air compression, which eliminates flammability risks and transport restrictions while maintaining stable 360° atomization. The mechanism’s separated air-and-formula architecture enhances product integrity and operational safety.
