Hidrahair Seal SE MB, Chemyunion’s new ingredient, promises strong, shiny hair without the need for frequent trims thanks to a sealing action that offers immediate repair of split ends, one of the main signs of hair damage.
According to Chemyunion, split ends are one of the main signs of hair damage, compromising the appearance and integrity of hair strands. They arise due to exposure to mechanical, chemical, and environmental factors — such as excessive brushing, frequent use of heat tools, chemical procedures, and ultraviolet radiation — that contribute to the degradation of the hair cuticle, exposing the cortex and promoting the formation of cracks, which may evolve into trichoptilosis – the scientific term for split ends.
Bioadhesive film
Chemyunion’s Hidrahair Seal SE MB is an active ingredient combining a polysaccharide obtained by fermentation (pullulan), a disaccharide (trehalose), an amino acid (arginine), and an organic acid (lactic acid) in an aqueous system with propanediol. According to the company, this synergy of ingredients allows the formation of a flexible and uniform bioadhesive film that seals damaged ends, improving the texture and resistance of the hair fiber.
The active ingredient’s unique feature is its ability to chemically interact with the surface of the hair fiber, ensuring effective adhesion even on rougher surfaces. This provides a long-lasting treatment that protects against further damage and restores a healthier and revitalized appearance to the hair.
Long lasting effect
To evaluate the efficacy of the new ingredient in hair care formulations, bleached fibers with split ends were treated with a leave-in containing 2% Hidrahair Seal SE MB. The closure (sealing) of split ends in the hair fibers was evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The study involved capturing images of the surface of the hair fibers treated with the active ingredients in order to demonstrate the formation of films created by their application on the fibers.
The study showed that 97% of split ends were sealed immediately after treatment, with 83% of the repair maintained even after 48 hours, demonstrating a long-lasting effect.
