Premium Beauty News - Bormioli Luigi is a key glassmaking player in the prestige perfumes and cosmetics segment. How is this market doing?

Simone Baratta - Due to a combination of situations, the market remains complex and uncertain. Most of our customers are seeing a slowdown in sales, though there are variations from one segment or product to another. Several factors can explain this. The geopolitical context plays a key role, but also the uncertainty over US tariffs, which most likely delayed a few launches and purchases. For certain products, there are still destocking occurrences at various levels of the supply chain. According to our analyses, these destocking effects should gradually fade in 2026.

Premium Beauty News – How do you deal with this situation?

Simone Baratta – We are hopeful that 2026 will be more stable. In the beauty industry, it is key to remain vigilant about market trends and consumer expectations. On the one hand, high value-added niche segments are growing, but with limited volumes, and on the other, low-range products and knockoffs are gaining ground. This does raise questions about the positioning of the prestige segment, which is a strategic challenge for the years to come. We definitely need to remain vigilant when it comes to market transformation.

Premium Beauty News – What is driving Bormioli Luigi right now?

Simone Baratta - As far as we are concerned, the situation is still positive, despite challenges. We are doing better than before the pandemic, and we keep working on promising launches. We are also keeping our technical and CSR investments up. Our priority is to electrify our ovens – for example our last gas oven in Spain will be transformed in 2027 – but also to enhance our processes: we will gradually convert gas-powered annealing lehrs to electric ones. In Europe, carbon reduction is increasingly regulated, but the solutions available are still limited. That is another challenge for the whole industry.

Also, we have been investing in Artificial Intelligence, automation, and more energy-efficient formulations. On this topic, the Lion Glass project, which aims to reduce the melting temperature while improving glass strength, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Premium Beauty News - How do you see the future of the company?

Simone Baratta - Despite a complex environment, we stay the course when it comes to growth and innovation, and we remain vigilant about market trends and environmental requirements.
