The Autumn/Winter 2018 womenswear shows spanning New York, London, Milan and Paris have drawn to a close, allowing us to take stock of the catwalk beauty trends that emerged on the catwalks. A major hit came in the form of flashy silver eyeshadow.

The snazzy metallic shade was present in some of the biggest shows of the season, not least of all in Milan, where both Fendi and Tommy Hilfiger opted for a flash of metallic silver shadow at the inner corner of the eye and along the lower lids to brighten up their catwalk beauty looks while keeping things fresh and minimalist.

In Paris, Saint Laurent used an opaque silver hue to put a contemporary spin on the classic cat eye, painting a shimmering line from the inner corner of the eye and along the lower lash line to jazz up the dramatic winged liquid liner. Meanwhile, in New York, Tom Ford used the product to put a shiny gunmetal finish on his dark, glossy eyeshadow look and Anna Sui’s fairytale-like eyeshadow incorporated a dash of silver at the inner eye corner.

Silver eyeshadow is one of those rare catwalk beauty trends that works just as well off the catwalk as on it — as proven by the recent slew of celebrities testing out the look for red carpet appearances. Sandra Bullock’s smoky eye was livened up with a dab of silver shadow at the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday, while Margot Robbie brushed her lids with a light dusting of the color at the same event, for a sparkly, glamorous look.
