82% of French people think the cosmetics industry is important for the image of France. The survey, which was conducted by IPSOS at the request of the French Federation of Beauty Companies (FEBEA), shows the good image of this industry, which is the second biggest net exporter behind aeronautics.

86% of the respondents also think the cosmetics industry is an innovative sector that contributes to the evolution of research, and 63% recognize its major role as a provider of jobs across France. Finally, 57% believe that the cosmetics industry is a good illustration of the French heritage and know-how.

Furthermore, French people overwhelmingly believe that the use of cosmetics has a positive impact:

 On their own well-being (79%);
 On the image they refer to themselves (74%);
 On self-confidence (66%).

However, the study also found that most consumers have a partial view of what cosmetic products are. Indeed, when asked to mention spontaneously some products belonging to the cosmetics sector, 37% of respondents mentioned makeup products and 36% products and skincare creams. In contrast, only 9% mentionned perfumes and toilet waters, and 5% toiletries and hygiene!
