Unveiled at the latest edition of the IFSCC Congress, held in Cannes, France, from September 15 to 18, 2025, SilvaLuma marks Seprify’s transition from the prototype SkyWhite pigment – awarded at Cosmetic 360 in 2024 – into a commercially available, dedicated ingredient with versatile industry applications.

Designed for cosmetics and personal care, the SilvaLuma range offers a natural, 100% plant-based alternative to conventional ingredients used as UV filters or as white colour additives.

SPF booster and stabiliser

In-vitro studies confirm that SilvaLuma can double SPF values at just 3% dosage levels, allowing formulators to reach target protection with a significantly lower UV filter load. According to Seprify, this not only reduces the chemical burden of formulations but also supports reef-safe and consumer-friendly claims.

Beyond protection, SilvaLuma enhances product aesthetics by delivering a non-greasy, non-sticky, matte finish with no white cast, ensuring a lightweight and comfortable skin feel.

Easily incorporated into creams, gels, serums, powders, and sticks, the ingredient disperses in both oil and water phases, functions at 1-5% use levels, and can act as a stabiliser or co-emulsifier, making it highly versatile across formats,Seprify claims.

Natural and biodegradable

SilvaLuma is fully natural, biodegradable, microplastic-free, and compliant with EC 1223/2009 as a non-nano material, offering a compelling solution for brands navigating evolving regulations and consumer expectations.

SilvaLuma is produced using Seprify’s proprietary technology, which achieves up to 70% lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional pulp-based materials, thanks to no direct emission from Seprify’s low energy process, the recycling of all chemicals involved and the choice of sustainable sourcing. Seprify’s process eliminates chemical-intensive wastewater treatment and reduces energy demand by more than 50% through smart co-location with pulp mills, supporting a cleaner, more circular supply chain.

With SilvaLuma, we’re proving that formulators no longer have to choose between performance and principles,” said Lukas Schertel, PhD, CEO & Co-founder of Seprify. “Building on the foundation of SkyWhite, SilvaLuma delivers targeted SPF-boosting power with refined validation and commercial focus. By controlling how cellulose structures interact with light, we provide mattifying solutions and meaningful SPF enhancement in a cleaner, simpler way — exactly what consumers expect from modern beauty.
