It’s official — the hottest colours of 2016 are "Rose Quartz" and "Serenity", according to global authority Pantone. In order to help consumers incorporate the soft pink and baby blue combo into their makeup routine, Pantone has teamed up with Sephora on a new, limited-edition beauty collection designed specifically for that purpose.

Featuring the pastel shades and a wider palette of preppy orange, yellow and purple tones, the collection focuses on keeping eyes and lips on trend.

The range comprises a "Modern Watercolors Eye Palette" featuring 24 shades of shimmer and matte formulas infused with Vitamin E to nurture lids. The hues range from soft pastels to bold primary shades, with "Fruit Dove", "Pelican" and "Marina" amongst the highlights.

For lips the beauty retailer has unveiled the "Modern Watercolors Lip Gloss Set", consisting of six pastel hues and a hydrating formula. There are also two lipsticks on offer — the high-coverage pastel pink "Color of the Year Layer Lipstick" in Rose Quartz and the futuristic, opaque blue "Color of the Year Matte Lipstick" in Serenity. Each features a velvety matte texture. The colour combination is a flattering one for many skintones, due to the warmth of Rose Quartz and the coolness of Serenity. Pantone has issued separate advice for incorporating the new hues into makeup routines, suggesting that beauty fans juxtapose the shades with neons for a bold contrast or play with matte, metallic and glossy finishes for added drama.
