Rare Beauty is entering the fragrance category with their eponymous eau de parfum and complementary range of fragrance layering balms.
Gourmand and spicy notes
Crafted in France with perfumer Jérôme Epinette (Robertet), the vegan fragrance blends gourmet and spicy notes (caramel, pistachio, pink pepper, vanilla and ginger) before melting into an enveloping sandalwood.
Rare combines ingredients from around the world: pink pepper from Australia, ginger from Nigeria, and upcycled cocoa beans from West Africa come together with sandalwood from New Caledonia and tonka beans from Venezuela.
Made to be customized
The eau de parfum can be worn solo or paired with one of the brand’s four Fragrance Layering Balms.
Each primer — Woody Oak, Floral Peony Blossom, Amber Vanilla, and Fresh Bergamot — invites the user to create its own olfactory signature, tailored to its mood or the time of day.
“My days are never the same, so I wanted a fragrance that evolves for the moment. Something that could take me from a quiet morning at home to a big night out—and always feels just right,” said Selena Gomez.
Inclusive bottle design
Staying true to her commitment to inclusivity, the singer ensured the bottle was designed for effortless handling, even by those with limited grip. The brand partnered with a group of certified hand therapists and a team of packaging engineers to create a luxe, ergonomic fragrance bottle that ensures the most effortless and comfortable dispensing.
“Instead of a very precision thin actuator, which are very difficult to use when you lose the dexterity in your fingers, we decided to make an oversized actuator,” highlighted Rare Beauty’s Chief Product Officer Joyce Kim.
In a consumer study of 56 individuals with mild to severe upper extremity impairments, the oversized pump was deemed easier to press down on with any part of the hand/body by 96% of the respondents. In addition, 95% said the shape of the bottle allowed for a more secure grip and 90% said the size of the pump made it easier to twist and unlock/lock the cap. Eventually, 90% said the size and shape of the pump allow you to spray fragrance more easily.
