Premium Beauty News - What is the history of Nuon Medical?

Alain Dijkstra - Nuon Medical is a company with over 20 years of experience in developing medical devices, particularly in light therapy. With more than 600 devices designed and collaborations with top 20 beauty industry leaders, we have built a strong track record in LED masks, hair growth solutions, pain relief devices, and more. As a major player in the sector with deep regulatory and clinical expertise, we currently produce over 100,000 LED masks each month and supply 70% of the U.S. home light therapy market.

Premium Beauty News - What is your positioning in the beauty market?

Alain Dijkstra - We are neither a cosmetics manufacturer nor a competitor to packaging companies — we are a technology partner. Nuon’s mission is to transform jars and tubes by integrating smart applicators or accessories designed to deliver real clinical benefits.

Practically speaking, the lid of a cream jar equipped with our light therapy technology is no longer just packaging — it becomes a treatment device. As consumers apply their cream, the accessory stimulates collagen, lifts the skin, and enhances the absorption of active ingredients. This allows brands to add a powerful new claim to their marketing mix. Our approach is always to pair the formula with the device in a truly synergistic way.

Premium Beauty News - What are the most eagerly awaited technologies at the moment?

Alain Dijkstra - We currently have expertise in more than 32 technologies, ranging from LED phototherapy, microcurrents, electrostimulation, hot/cold thermotherapy, ultrasonic vibrations, microneedling, and more.

Skin diagnostic tools are currently the most sought-after innovation in beauty tech. To meet this demand, we’ve developed the Compact Skin Analyzer — a small device, available as a standalone or seamlessly integrated into a jar lid.

We have miniaturized sensors capable of measuring skin hydration or sebum with the precision of a clinical device that retails for USD 25,000. This allows users to easily monitor their skin on a daily basis and enables brands to validate the effects of a skincare routine, provide scientific proof of a product’s effectiveness, and make recommendations.

Another star product is the UV Camera Cushion Compact. When integrated into a sun makeup case, its small camera allows users to check their entire face is protected by the sun powder and to identify forgotten areas.

Premium Beauty News - How do you ensure quality and regulatory compliance?

Alain Dijkstra - It’s in our DNA. Our factories in China, Poland and India are FDA, ISO 13485, TGA, MDSAP, and B-Corp certified. We have more than 30 legal experts dedicated to certifications. Each device goes through a comprehensive process, including design, prototyping, clinical testing, industrialization, and quality control. This is what sets us apart from other manufacturers.

Premium Beauty News - Which markets are you mainly present in?

Alain Dijkstra - To date, our most important markets, where our technologies are fully recognized, are the United States, Canada, and Australia. In Europe, regulations still limit certain claims, making the market less favorable.

Premium Beauty News - Is sustainability part of your strategy?

Alain Dijkstra - Absolutely. We are proud to be B Corp certified. Our products are energy-efficient, equipped with long-life batteries, and made from recyclable medical-grade materials. But sustainability also lies in how they are used: when a device delivers real value, it isn’t discarded — it’s kept and reused with refills.

Premium Beauty News - What upcoming trends do you foresee?

Alain Dijkstra - We work closely with universities and dermatologists, providing devices free of charge for clinical research. This allows us to anticipate the market. Today, the big wave of innovation is in hair and scalp care. Research in this area is progressing even faster than in anti-aging.
