Halloysite nanotubes are unique nanomaterials that are formed by surface weathering of aluminosilicate minerals and are composed of aluminum, silicon, hydrogen and oxygen. Since they are naturally formed in the Earth over millions of years, halloysite nanotubes are reputed environmentally friendly materials. HNTs’ properties are also due to their hollow tube structure unique to halloysite clay.

According to Cathy Fleischer, President of NaturalNano ,working with Fiabila will help its company to enter the personal products industry. “It is a tremendous opportunity for us to leverage the strengths of our naturally occurring, environmentally friendly HNT technology. Given Fiabila’s desire to rapidly integrate new technology into their factories in five countries, we expect to have an immediate impact on the global cosmetics market," Fleischer commented.

The US company said in a release that the use of the NaturalNanos’s processes to incorporate HNTs into nail polish and other nail-care products should help Fiabila to enhance attributes such as product durability and overall performance. In addition to developing processes to enhance Fiabila’s core products, NaturalNano is exploring the creation of longer-lasting and more brightly coloured nail polish through its proprietary extended release technology, which incorporates filled HNTs.

NaturalNano also said it has entered into a material supply agreement with Fiabila for HNTs and filled HNTs. Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
