Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group, is investing in a second baling line at its Kaskinen mill, Finland. Together with process and grade changes carried out previously this investment will increase the mill’s bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) capacity and will improve product consistency and production reliability.

Metsä Board increases its bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) capacity in its Koskinen mill. BCTMP is used for the production of folding boxboard.

The line will be taken into use during November-December 2018. The value of the investment is EUR 6 million.

Folding boxboards

The investment will increase the annual capacity by a further 30,000 tonnes to 370,000 tonnes and will help the mill respond to growing demand. The BCTMP produced in Kaskinen is used both for Metsä Board’s folding boxboard production as well as for market pulp. High quality BCTMP helps provide important properties for folding boxboard such as light weight.

New sheeting line at Äänekoski

Furthermore, the Finnish manufacturer has started construction of a new sheeting line at its Äänekoski board mill. The investment will increase the annual capacity of the sheeting plant by 35,000 tonnes to a total of 120,000 tonnes. The value of the investment is EUR 11 million. According to Metsä Board, the new sheeting line will help ensure that the mill can continue to respond to increasing demand.

In addition to the new sheet cutter the investment includes additional automation to the existing sheet cutters as well as equipment for cutter reel handling and storage. The new sheeting line will be located in the existing sheeting plant and production is planned to start during September 2019.
