MakeUp in New York: Attendance still going up

With more than a hundred exhibitors, about 65% of them specialised in formulation and full service, this sixth edition of MakeUp in New York welcomed more than 2,800 visitors over two days, an increase of 15 % over the previous year. Once again, MakeUp in NewYork also revealed new trends in make-up and a series of innovations.

Sophisticated and changing textures are the key trends in formulas as well as nomadic and environmentally friendly packaging,” said the organisers of the show.

For this edition, close to 30 companies participated in the innovation competition and submitted 60 products including 43 formulas and 17 new packaging and applicators. Eventually, the jury selected 24 products, which were presented on the Innovation Tree at the centre of the trade show.

Glittering eyes

One of the key formulation trends is the importance of pearlescent, metalling and glittering effects for the eyes. “It is the big new trend today,” explains Florence Bernardin, founder and manager of Information & Inspiration. “In the wake of what happened a few years ago for the nails, the trend for pearlescent and glittering effects is quickly growing for the eyes.

Aircos, for instant, presented Countless Effect Eyeshadow, an enriched formula with pearlescent coated binder with a silky and airy texture thanks to the back injection technology.

Perfume Touch Up, a transparent solid fragrance with a texture that glides smoothly and effortlessly on skin, into a portable pencil packaging for easy touch-ups.

The Cosmetic Group USA showcased baked powders created in a jar, with pink and light metallic highlights.

Another highlight of the innovation competition was the Matte Me Metal liquid lipstick by iTiT Cosmetics, with its matte metallic finish.

New textures

MakeUp in new York was also the occasion to discover never seen textures:

  • Perfume Touch Up, a transparent solid fragrance with a texture that glides smoothly and effortlessly on skin, into a portable pencil packaging for easy touch-ups,
  • N24 Flower Lip Balm by Sunzhou Ante Cosmetics, a transparent the lip balm with a flower incrustation and real 24K gold chips to inside.

“A clear future”

The growth of the show allows the organizers of MakeUp in New York to look the future “with serenity”. But it also forces the event to move to a bigger venue.

At a time when many professional events in the beauty sector are going to overlap next year in New York and outdo one another, often in the same exhibition area, MakeUp in New York, like its siblings in Paris, Seoul, Sao Paulo and Los Angeles, will continue to be the exception in the Beauty sphere. Exhibitors and visitors know it, this and this is what makes and will continue to make MakeUp in New York a special event in a place of its own,” announced the organizers.
