Urban living is taking a visible toll on skin health! Daily exposure to pollutants weakens the skin’s natural defenses, leaving it increasingly vulnerable to external aggressors. Harmful particles can then penetrate the skin barrier, amplifying oxidative stress and triggering inflammation.

When combined with UV radiation, these factors further compromise the skin’s integrity, damaging structural proteins and accelerating the appearance of ageing, from uneven texture to loss of radiance,” describes Gelyma.

To tackle this challenge, the French manufacturer is introducing a new multifunctional active ingredient designed to prevent oxidative stress–induced biological changes in the skin at the molecular, cellular and tissue levels. Dubbed Wealy, this aqueous extract of two red seaweeds (Kappaphycus alvarezii and Gigartina stellate), known for their richness in polysaccharides, acts as a booster to restore cellular functions, and to protect and revitalize the skin in urban environments.

Extensive testing

The effectiveness of Wealy has been demonstrated at the molecular and cellular level by in vitro and genomic studies on human normal keratinocytes, and through ex vivo studies on human skin explants submitted to oxidative stress (UVA exposure and micro-particles pollution).

Wealy significantly inhibits the formation of carbonylated proteins in the stratum corneum, the epidermis and the dermis and protects aggressed skin from oxidative damage and dysfunction thus preserving the good quality of cutaneous proteins.

Clinical evaluation performed on 30 female volunteers living in urban environments confirm that Wealy improves the natural repair of the skin under environmental damage after just 28 days, leading to healthy looking and more radiant complexion.

Wealy is a limpid amber colored liquid that is soluble in water and insoluble in oils. Gelyma recommends using Wealy at concentrations of 1.5% to 3%, making it ideally suited for facial care applications such as anti-ageing serums and creams, protective and anti-pollution skincare, as well as DNA-focused formulations.

Wealy is derived from ethically sourced marine resources. According to Gelyma, Kappaphycus alvarezii is cultivated through sustainable farming practices in Asia, while Gigartina stellata (Mastocarpus stellatus) is responsibly harvested from wild populations in Brittany, France, in strict compliance with CITES regulations.
