Ulta Beauty has teamed up with the global media company Essence on a new cosmetics collection co-created by young African-American young women. The ‘Essence x Ulta Beauty Girls United Collection’ is the result of a year-long mentorship program that kicked off last fall, which saw six Black teens with aspirations to enter the beauty industry given access to career counselling from Essence and Ulta Beauty leaders.

The girls also helped to curate a four-piece beauty collection that spans a 12-pan eyeshadow palette, four high-shine lip glosses, two highlighter sticks and a brightly-patterned cosmetic bag. The teens, who were aged between 16 and 19, also featured in a six-part web series about their journey, dubbed ‘Girls United: Beautiful Possibilities.’

"Essence is incredibly proud of each of these young women who not only have delivered an outstanding product, but were also able to have this amazing experience," said MoAna Luu, Essence Chief Content and Creative Officer, in a statement. "We are so tremendously grateful for Ulta Beauty’s partnership and support for our Girls United initiative to empower young women and to bring this spectacular campaign to life."

The two brands will join forces once again this fall to launch Beautiful Possibilities 2.0. For more information, see Essence.com/GirlsUnited.
