Global silicones and silicon-based technologies supplier, Dow Corning, is launching Dow Corning FZ-3196, an alkyl methyl siloxane fluid of moderate volatility, which feels less dry on the skin than more volatile materials. The clear, colourless fluid spreads easily with a light, silky, and smooth feel. It carries the INCI designation caprylyl methicone.

Dow Corning designed this silicone as an alternative to vegetal oils in natural formulations. “The popularity of natural products remains strong with consumers, but formulating with vegetable oils can present aesthetic challenges, such as skin residue or a tacky and greasy feel,” Isabelle Van Reeth, Dow Corning’s technology leader for skin care, explains.

Dow Corning says that FZ-3196 is particularly adapted in a variety of personal care applications such as moisturizers, gels, makeup removers, facial cleansers, sunscreens, foundations, eye shadows, eyeliners, lipsticks, blushes, and hair sprays.

Being compatibility with a wide range of personal care ingredients, FZ-3196 is can serve as a carrier, or as a dispersing medium for hydrophobic powders and pigments.
