Philippe Loeb, Dassault Systèmes

The know-how acquired by Dassault Systèmes in the aviation industry, then in industries with high complexity products, became available in recent years to the areas of consumer goods and retail. "We have adapted and developed solutions for businesses where knowing the consumer and its behavior is the main issue," explains Philippe Loeb, Vice President Consumer Packaged Goods - Retail at Dassault Systèmes.

Precisely, in order to better meet the needs of these sectors the world leader in 3D design software has changed its organization to create 12 divisions corresponding to specific industrial sectors, including one devoted to consumer goods and distribution.

Dassault Systèmes thus offers a software series designed to facilitate the marketing of consumer products [1], focusing on the complete social industry experience from “idea to consumer.” Perfect Shelf is the latest product in the series "the idea of the consumer." This new software leverages advanced 3D modeling and visualization to provide realistic views of retail aisles including shelves, fixtures, products, lighting and promotional materials, in order to ease and accelerate the design process of the consumer’s in-store shopping experience.

Computerized modeling offers a great flexibility and extends possibilities at lower cost. Thus, both brands and retailers can design virtual shelf layouts and stock them with realistic 3D product representations built from 2D pictures.

Perfect Shelf industry solution experience incorporates, and connects digitally, many business scenarios in the areas of Category Management and Space Planning such as new packaging introduction, category assessment, consumer decision trees, in context assortments review, adjacencies and sales materials. Also, it quickly adapts shelving plans to store specifics and then helps store employees execute these plans ‘right the first time’.

Another feature highlighted by Dassault Systèmes: the ease of use. “Obviously we adapt our soft-wares to their users, as the expectations of a marketing specialist are not those of an engineer,” says Philippe Loeb.

When both brands of consumer packaged goods and retailers want to ensure that every consumer, in every store can find what they want, when they want it - and do so quickly and easily, Perfect Shelf also appears as a conviction tool to recommend shelving scenarios that have the potential to enhance both the brand’s and the retailer’s category revenue.
