Croda Beauty Actives has launched a bio-fermented skin identical ceramide. Its properties help create climate adaptive skin care products that protect the skin from the harsh environmental conditions.
Dubbed DS-Ceramide Y3S [1], the new active ingredient is Croda’s answer to the “geoskincare” trend. This approach is based on targeted treatments according to the geographical and climatic context.
Climate variability and skin barrier
Produced using an IECIC compliant fermentation-derived Ceramide NP, this liposoluble active ingredient went through a clinical study with specific temperature and humidity conditions to measure its efficiency under different climates.
Temperate, dry & hot, dry & cold and humid conditions were applied to panels from different regions like South Korea and Italy to measure the impact of climate on the skin barrier. According to the manufacturer of cosmetic active ingredients, these tests have demonstrated that DS-Ceramide Y3S provides significant immediate resistance for the skin in dry and cold environments and offers cumulative benefits by increasing skin hydration after 7 days of daily use in humid conditions.
Croda Beauty Actives also found that DS-Ceramide Y3S at 0.5% significantly increased skin hydration in normal (temperate) conditions (+31% at T2 weeks vs T0) and hot and dry environments (+47% at T2 weeks vs T0) with results in line with 1% positive control (hyaluronic acid).
DS-Ceramide Y3S is a 100% natural-origin ingredient (ISO 16128) and holds RSPO, COSMOS, and NATRUE approvals. It is also vegan-suitable and IECIC compliant.
