BET Networks has launched a series of makeup tutorials dedicated to African-American beauty fans. The Viacom-owned entertainment platform’s BET Digital arm has joined forces with Beautycon Media to launch a series of original short-form beauty-focused videos featuring black models and influencers with varying hair textures and skin tones.
The clips focus on the hottest seasonal looks, including hair twists created with colourful twine and “sunset eye” eyeshadow. The videos can be viewed on BET.com/Style, and will also be screened live at the Beautycon NYC 2018 Festival running from April 21 through April 22 in New York.
“The launch of BET Digital’s original short-form tutorials for diverse makeup enthusiasts provides limitless opportunities to serve a community often overlooked in the beauty space,” said Bobby Singh, Head of Digital BET Networks, in a statement.

The beauty industry has shown signs of increasingly embracing the need to improve its diversity standards over the past few years, with a selection of major brands tackling the issue head on by increasing their product shade ranges and recruiting campaign stars from a wider cross section of backgrounds.
