The ANMAT (Administración Nacional de Medicamentos, Alimentos y Tecnologia Medica), the authority responsible for regulating cosmetic products placed on the market in Argentina recently updated the lists of colour additives permitted for use in perfumes personal care and cosmetic products.

ANMAT’s Disposición No 1608/2013 (see below) supersedes Disposición No 2162/2011. Actually, it transposes in Argentine law the content of Resolución Mercosur GMC No. 16/12, amending the lists of permitted colour additives in perfumes, personal hygiene and cosmetic products. This resolution adopted by the Mercosur’s Common Market Group will enter into force in all member states (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela) thirty days after the Mercosur’s Secretariat officially indicates the text has been transposed into each national law.

Earlier this year, the ANMAT also prohibited the marketing of 43 perfumes of Chinese origin that were not properly registered and where imported by unregistered persons (Disposición N º 281/2013).
