André Prigent, president of Agrimer and Bretagne Cosmétiques Marins, was killed in a road accident on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
“Visionary, devoted and profoundly human, he built his company into a leading organization dedicated to promoting the region and its marine resources. His agility and hard work left a long-lasting legacy on the history of his companies and their employees,” Agrimer said in a tribute press release.
André Prigent founded Agrimer in 1986, with his father Jean, driven by the ambition to harness Brittany’s marine resources for use in sectors such as cosmetics, nutrition, and health. Headquartered in Plouguerneau, in France’s Brittany region, Agrimer reported revenues of nearly EUR 10.5 million in 2024. The company generates nearly two-thirds of its business in the cosmetics sector (active ingredients, ingredients and finished products).
A pioneer in Brittany’s algae sector, André Prigent also founded Bretagne Cosmétiques Marins in 1994, a company specializing in professional products for thalassotherapy, spas, and institutes, notably under the Thalion brand. The company generates just over EUR 5 million in revenue, with exports accounting for 60% of the total.
“We would like to reassure our employees, partners and customers; Bretagne Cosmétiques Marins and Agrimer will continue their mission with the same commitment, respecting the values upheld by our President,” the press release concludes.
