According to Algerian press reports, the Ministry of Commerce would consider a ban on the importation of certain products and cosmetics and a list of concerned items would be in preparation.

Through this ban, Algerian authorities would aim to reduce the bill of cosmetics imports that have been rising steadily over recent years, but would also intend to promote the development of local supply and encourage foreign companies to enter into partnerships or manufacturing licenses agreements with Algerian operators.

Quality controls could also be strengthened in the country as counterfeiting and parallel markets are prospering. For this purpose, Africa’s largest quality control laboratory dedicated to industrial products is about to be established in Algiers.
