The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, a Parisian brand established in 2000 to highlight the creativity of selected fragrance creators.

This third acquisition within a month for Estée Lauder, after Le Labo and Rodin olio lusso, confirms the high interest of the giant US cosmetics group for the ultraluxury segment.

Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle offers a collection of exclusive fragrances crafted by some of the world’s most talented perfumers personally curated by Malle. “The combination of Malle’s exacting approach and the distinct personalities of each perfumer have resulted in the creation of original, perfectly balanced fragrances,” said the Estée Lauder group.

The 21 fragrances - created by 12 master perfumers - within the Frédéric Malle collection are sold through five architecturally distinctive stand-alone stores in Paris and New York, as well as through Barney’s in the United States and Liberty in London.

The brand will be overseen by John Demsey, Estée Lauder Companies’ Group President, responsible for the Estée Lauder, M·A·C, Tom Ford, Prescriptives, Bobbi Brown, Bumble and bumble, Jo Malone, La Mer, Smashbox, Aramis & Designer Fragrance brands, Le Labo and Rodin olio lusso.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close in January 2015.
