US Trends: The Gift of Beauty

Projections for sales in the US for the end of the year holidays remained prudent, with 3.5 % growth announced. In reality, holiday shopping started well before Black Friday and even before Halloween for a quarter of the consumers.

It’s believed that 48 % of the sales will happen before Cyber Monday. According to the American government, parents will offer a million (nano) drones to their children, making it the trendiest gift of the year. Lego & Apple, among other brands, miniaturized this little jewel of technology and made it affordable to the masses. To encourage business, big stores offered free, same-day delivery, which is not always easy to do.

Beauty advisers have been ordered to stay in permanent contact with their buyers, and to make sure clients find the products they want without losing time - even if it means going to another big store to get the required product. For example, Genaissance de La Mer, which is not yet available at Saks Fifth Avenue, was reserved for me at Neiman Marcus with added gifts and apologies to make sure that the buying experience was perfect. Since then, I’ve received two emails asking about my first impressions…

The “must” gifts for this Christmas:

Genaissance de La Mer is one of the big, end-of-the-year launches ($620.00). Crystal Miracle Broth is an ultimate serum made from extremely rare calcified algae, lit by natural light waves and blended with an infusion made from 24 carat gold. Genaissance Ferment helps defy time and activates the generation of new skin. The miracle continues!

Chanel has launched a limited edition of Sublimage La Crème Yeux (US$225.00). The bonus - its draining instrument to accompany a massage gesture that activates micro-circulation. In that way, the instrument stimulates the eyelid’s fine skin and strengthens the cream’s effectiveness. All you need is a drop the size of a grain of rice!

Pat McGrath is an international makeup artist and ex Art Director for CoverGirl, Max Factor, Dolce & Gabbana, SKII, and the favorite makeup artist for numerous stars such as Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Scarlett Johansson. She has just launched her first eponymous product: Gold 001. This very malleable formula is a multidimensional pigment in a micro-fine texture that you can use on eyes, lips, eyebrows and skin for a luminous effect. It comes with a spatula, a recipient to mix your personalized formula, as well as an activator liquid (US$40.00). This product is available in a limited edition of 1000 as a teaser for the entire line which will be launched end 2016.

The “super size” events for the end of this year:

Estée Lauder offers 250 ml of Re-Nutriv Age Renewal Creme (US$800), and 500 ml of Re-Nutriv Lightweight Creme (US$400), La Mer has not been left behind with 100 ml of La Mer The Concentrate Grande (US$765), Perricone MD offers 100ml of its Cold Plasma Sub D Jumbo (US$198), and finally SK II Facial Treatment Essence Blue Hummingbird 230 ml (US$229.00)… to give just a few examples.

Beauty is a gift!
