Silab, a French supplier of natural active ingredients to the cosmetics industry, inaugurated its third production unit at its Brive-la-Gaillarde (central France) site. Since its creation in 1984 of the company has been expanding continuously.

The new 4,500 sqm start-of-the-art workshop enables should enable the company to double its production capacity of biological active molecules. “A 15 million euro investment, for the most part self-funded,” says the company. “Computerized management of the production process (meeting the GMP cosmetics standard) guarantees reliability and traceability at every key stage.

With this new unit, the Silab production facility now covers a total area of 10,000 sqm, thus allowing the company to produce 100% of its actives on site.

Furthermore, the company is pursuing its sustainable development strategy: environmentally-friendly production processes, use of water as a solvent, optimization of its recycling, commissioning of a new on-site wastewater treatment plant, reduction of energy consumption, and use of the green chemistry and biotechnology processes - Silab’s technological expertise - to isolate, purify and concentrate active molecules.

Thanks to these actions, Jean Paufique, president and founder of Silab, received on the 8th October 2012 the Green Business Award for the South West France region, organized by Ernst & Young and L’Express magazine. This prize is awarded to an innovative company that uses and recovers natural resources, while focusing on sustainable development and a commitment to a policy of environmental protection.
