David Bondi, COO, Informa Exhibitions Asia

By partnering with British group Informa, Shanghai Baiwen Exhibition, the owner of China Beauty Expo, aims at internationalizing its event. The two companies announced they will “combine networks and skills with the aim to expand the Shanghai beauty-based portfolio to a pan-Asian audience.”

Three co-located events

China Beauty Expo - which hosted a total of 1,657 exhibitors and 245,000 visitors in 2013 - comprises three co-located exhibitions: Cosmetics China, dedicated to cosmetics, skincare and fragrances (over 800 exhibitors), Cosmetech, dedicated to the equipment, packaging and ingredients (more than 500 exhibitors) and Beauty Shanghai, dedicated to professional salons and spa products (nearly 300 exhibitors).

Together, ‘Informa-Baiwen’ will offer the beauty business community new solutions in China and Asia, building on Informa’s existing portfolio run globally out of Paris, the world capital city of beauty, and on Baiwen’s strong offering in Shanghai, the epicentre of the beauty industry in Asia,” says David Bondi, COO, Informa Exhibitions Asia. “Our goal is to transform this show so as it becomes more international and to grow Shanghai as the main hub for beauty professionals in Asia,” he details to Premium Beauty News.

New animations in 2014

As a first consequence of this new partnership, the 2014 edition of China Beauty Expo will feature some key components of the Beyond Beauty tradeshow, which is held annually in Paris. A new exhibition area - ZOOM Asia - will be created alongside the Beauty Challenger Awards Asia, both of them wit the aim to recognize new beauty brands attempting to expand in the Asian market.

According to the latest figures from the China Association of Fragrance Flavor and Cosmetics Industries, cosmetic sales in China maintain an average annual growth rate of 10-20%. "Even if the market growth is expected to slow down in the future, it will remain strong as local needs remain strong drivers," adds David Bondi.

Informa intends to build on this growth to grow China Beauty Expo as the first global event in the cosmetics sector, by doubling its size within the next four or five years.
