Canadian federal government has published a proposed regulation on “Microbeads in Toiletries”.

According to the text, the manufacture and importation of any toiletries that contain microbeads will be prohibited on or after January 1, 2018, unless the toiletries are also natural health products or non-prescription drugs, in which case the prohibition applies on or after July 1, 2018.

Furthermore, the sale of any toiletries that contain microbeads will be prohibited on or after July 1, 2018, unless the toiletries are also natural health products or non-prescription drugs, in which case the prohibition applies on or after July 1, 2019.
