Luxe Pack in Green

It is the Natura Chronos jar presented by Eastman that won the 2011 Luxe Pack In Green Award.

The Natura Chronos jar is made with a grade of Eastman’s Glass Polymer containing 45% of renewable organic material. It dries 25% faster than traditional co-polyesters and processes at 20% lower temperatures, resulting in less energy usage and faster production times. Brazilian brand Natura offers its Chronos line in refill packs thus reducing the amount of resin used and the packaging material required, while also reducing environmental impact of the manufacturing process.

TheLuxe Pack In Green jury has also awarded a special mention to the Lumson TAG System (Techno Airless Glass System), an airless cosmetic packaging with a system facilitating its recyclability: thanks to the “Eco-Lock system” patented multi-functional component, the final consumer, after usage, simply has to unscrew the pump to easily separate all plastic components.

New developments of Surlyn over-moulding

Bormioli Luigi showcased new developments of its bottles with an over-moulded Surlyn shell, thanks to a co-operation with Dupont and the Italian Group Pibiplast, specializing in injection processes. The manufacture of this type of bottle is a two-stage operation. First, the design of the glass bottle itself in blow-and-blow, press-and-blow or press processes. Then, the over-moulding stage where it all happens.

New cardboard qualities

At Luxe Pack 2011, Swedish cardboard maker Korsnäs introduced Artisan, a new grade with a silky smooth surface and excellent printing capabilities.

The new board has a very interesting soft touch allowing for new unique packaging experiences. The product is a high-white, multi-layered board made of 100 % virgin fibre. The long, tough and resilient fibres make for an extremely strong and formable material and the single-coated, silky smooth surface offers excellent printing properties. The combination of outstanding shape-ability and printability makes Korsnäs Artisan an ideal packaging material for luxury products such as cosmetics, perfume and exclusive confectionery,” said the company.

Korsnäs Artisan is available in grammages from 270 to 390 gsm. The material is recyclable and made of compostable ingredients.

As its part, Stora Enso continues to develop its products and services for the needs of the luxury packaging segment. The company’s flagship product Ensocoat was relaunched in two versions (one- or two-side coating) in 2010, and it has attracted many among the major luxury brand manufacturers. The Finnish pulp and paper manufacturer is completing its range of packaging board grade suited for cosmetics and beauty care packaging uses, with the launch of an enhanced Performa White.

Fan Tray, patented by Cosfibel

Worth to be noted too, Cosfibel’s new Fan Tray solution, a wedge that is no longer tucked away and no longer has a purely functional role but is both innovative and beautiful.

The Fan Tray is composed of two panels that open like a book. Simple on the outside, it reveals its charms upon opening. Indeed, the wedge, designed following the idea of a fan, opens up around the product to release its contents. Through this novel design, the wedge becomes an integral part of the coffret’s animation, while also doubling as a vector for communication. Available in cardboard, PET, PVC or foam and adaptable to all shapes, the Fan Tray can hold up to two products and can be decorated and have custom folding options.

Among the other novelties showcased at Luxe Pack: Rexam’s Panache pump, the Magic Inside beauty solution by Aptar + home, the new glass and plastic metallization processes of Solev, and the interesting lipstick case developed by INCA.
