Luxury lingerie brand La Perla has its sights set on the beauty industry. The brand, which is known for its high-end lingerie, nightwear and swimwear, has announced the launch of a new subsidiary, La Perla Beauty. It will focus on luxury fragrance, cosmetics and skincare, according to a press release.

"La Perla Beauty is a natural extension for the iconic La Perla brand and creates an exciting opportunity to share the modernized brand and its values with a broader consumer audience," a statement from the company reads.

The brand, which was founded in 1954 in Bologna, Italy, by Ada Masotti, has been busy celebrating its 65th anniversary recently, with the launch of a commemorative collection.

This is not the very first incursion of the brand in the world of beauty. Indeed, three La Perla fragrances had been created in the late 1980s.

A multitude of luxury brands have expanded into the beauty space over recent years. Fashion designer Victoria Beckham is one of the latest big names to step into the industry, with the launch of her Victoria Beckham Beauty brand last month. Cult fashion label All Saints launched its first fragrance collection last November, while the luxury fashion house of Celine announced the launch of an ‘haute perfumerie’ scent collection developed under the artistic direction of Hedi Slimane last month. Womenswear designer Rebecca Minkoff is also reportedly planning to launch fragrance and beauty products in the near future.
