Germany-based supplier of specialty chemicals, Evonik, is launching TEGO® Cistus, a natural based active ingredient to protect the skin against environmental stress like pollution, smoke, harsh weather and sun rays, which can accelerate skin ageing. Presented at the IFSCC Congress 2012, this active is a standardized plant extract highly enriched in polyphenols from pink rock rose (Cistus Incanus).
Cistus incanus spp. tauricus growths in Europe and parts of the Middle East and has a historical use in traditional European medicine. According to Evonik, various in vitro studies have shown that TEGO® Cistus delivers strong anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) in skin cells and helps to protect the skin against external aggressions, such as UV light and pollution. “Extended in vivo studies have confirmed that TEGO® Cistus significantly protects the skin from UV induced inflammation and against oxidative stress,” the company adds.
