Parnership with DuPont

Gilles Pauget, General Manager, VPI

The teams of VPI, a company specialised in the injection of plastic parts, located at Orgelet in the Jura region, France, have scored high! Indeed, to achieve this effect of bells floating in a transparent Surlyn-made crystal ring was not an easy thing to achieve. “This innovation was made possible through a close partnership between our teams, Lalique Parfums and DuPont, who produces the Surlyn” we are told at VPI, “which allowed us to develop a brand new tri-injection process for this project.

Overall, it’s no less than 19 bells with an average diameter of 6 millimetres, which are scattered at the heart of the collar with a thickness of 17.5 millimetres and a diameter of 70 millimetres. It took eighteen months of development to optimize the tri-injection process and to perfectly encapsulate the moulded lily flower, without damaging it and preserving all the details of it. But what a result!

Three layers massive parts in the same mould!

This is a further proof of what is driving us at VPI,” explains Gilles Pauget, General Manager. “Injected in two operations, this collar requires three layers of material and complete mastery of the processing parameters to maintain the overall quality of the product at each stage. Beyond the classical development aspect, all partners have pushed boundaries of creativity and technology to carry out this project which is a tribute to René Lalique on the year of his 150th birthday. We prove our expertise in multilayer injection with this innovation project ‘Ice Cube’ which this time, consists in making three layer massive parts in the same mould. A promising concept, which is opening new horizons.
