The European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM) has validated SkinEthic’s Reconstructed Human Epidermis (RHE) as a full replacement of the Draize test for skin irritation.

SkinEthic Laboratories, a French supplier of in vitro solutions for safety testing and efficacy profiling and a world leader in 3D human reconstructed tissues, said its RHE validated protocol showed a good specificity (80%) and sensitivity (90%) with an overall accuracy of 85% during the validation process.

SkinEthic also says that this ready-to-use an alternative to animal testing is also validated for skin corrosion.

In parallel, ECVAM also validated another non-animal skin irritation test, the modified Epiderm Skin Irritation Test (SIT) produced by the US-based MatTek Corporation.
