According to a recent report by Iranian market research firm Tose’e Mohandesi Bazaargostaran Ati (TMBA), Iran has emerged as the world’s seventh largest consumer of cosmetics. Iranian consumers would spend approximately USD 2.1 billion (EUR 1.55 billion) annually on personal care products.

The report, unveiled by Press TV, a Tehran-based English-speaking television network, also highlights that Iran accounts for 29 percent of the USD 7.2 billion (EUR 5,33 billion) cosmetics market in the Middle East.

The study suggests that Iranian women from the country’s six major cities would spend an average of USD 7 a month on cosmetics. Considering that the average monthly salary in Iran is about USD 600-700, the authors of the report explain this high consumption rate by the fact that half of the Iranian population is under the age of 30 and that 65% of Iranians live in cities.
