Estée Lauder boosts research on coloured cosmetics

The US maker of luxury cosmetics is re-opening its Color Innovation Center in Markham (Ontario, Canada) after having spent approximately two years and USD 3 million to renovate the 28,000 square foot (2,600 square meters) research, development and manufacturing facility.

Estée Lauder’s Color Innovation Center will be entirely devoted to research and development on coloured cosmetic products, such as eye shadows, blushes, foundations, mascaras and lip products, for the group’s brands.

According to Estée Lauder, approximately 50 shades will be created every month in the Center with scientists to focus on expanding colour shades, product finishes and application methods.

Development of specialized analytical techniques to test and respond to temperature changes in the look and feel of make-up, as well as coordinating consumer testing with make-up artists across the Company’s brands, will also be key missions of the Center.

The Company has partnered with scientists who specialize in cosmetic formulations to ensure that on-trend products are developed. To further that goal, the Company is working with the Society of Cosmetic Chemists and Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario, to implement the first-ever Canadian cosmetic sciences program. The Estée Lauder Companies’ scientists have been instrumental in helping develop the program’s curriculum and will be professors as well as guest lecturers during the semester.
