Cosmoprof Asia has again confirmed its place as the definitive show in the region for the international cosmetic and beauty business. It’s the reference point for new trends so that visitors come away with exciting new ideas and new business contacts,” said Michael Duck, Director of Cosmoprof Asia Ltd.

Key growth markets

For cosmetics makers and their suppliers, China and Asia are the world’s key growth markets. Japanese cosmetics giants, Kanebo and Shiseido, thus eye at the Chinese market as their number one strategic priority to fuel their international development. AmorePacific Corp., South Korea’s leading cosmetics manufacturer, wants to become China’s fourth cosmetics supplier. Procter & Gamble and Estee Lauder are increasing the number of brands and products they offer in the country, in order to make the most of the growth potential they hold. L’Oreal, the world’s leading cosmetics maker, intends to quadruple its production capacity in Asia.

Once again, China’s huge but tricky market was the main focus of many exhibitors and visitors at Cosmoprof Asia. The two conferences on the development of beauty brands and on cosmetics regulations in China were fully booked.

According to market research firm RNCOS, China’s cosmetics and toiletries market shows no signs of slowdown. Especially, skin care segment has been a key growth contributor and steered overall industry to sustain its growth momentum. RNCOS forecast the segment to grow at a CAGR [1] of 12.7% over the next three years (2010-2013).

“The growing number of discerning Chinese consumers is leading into more diversified demand for skin care products. To meet the demand arising from different consumer segments, skin care players are introducing new products with added functionalities. Besides moisturizers, other products like, whitening, toners, and anti-ageing skin care have received positive response from the consumers and shown impressive growth,” explains RNCOS.

Innovative suppliers

The latest edition of Cosmoprof Asia also highlighted the high technology level and innovation of the industry’s leading packaging and full service suppliers such as Alcan Packaging Beauty (now Albéa), Du Pont, Iléos, Fiabila, FS Korea, Gerresheimer, HCP Packaging, Jia Hsing Enterprise, Kolmar, Libo Cosmetics, and many more.

Each year, Asian suppliers from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and, increasingly, from mainland China showcase increasingly interesting products, complying with the highest quality standards.

Actually, there’s no reason for Asian suppliers to remain specialised in low-cost and poor quality products. The natural trend is that leading companies provide increasingly sophisticate products,” a European exhibitor told Premium Beauty News.

The show was swarming with manufacturers presenting a countless number of vibrating, rotating, or heated mascaras, but also with companies showcasing innovative packaging designs.

Libo Cosmetics, for instance, a supplier of make-up packaging headquartered in Taiwan, with manufacturing facilities in mainland China, showcased flower-shaped, fabric-covered or maple-covered compact series, besides extensive ranges of standard products, lipstick cases, mascara and lip gloss containers and supplies many of the most renown international brands.

FS Korea is another illustration. The Korean supplier showcased its ranges of packaging made from eco-resin as well as innovative designs for compacts and make-up brushes.
