Premium Beauty News - Your group seems to be fully benefiting from a year full of launches?

Valérie Jacob - That is right. We are very proud to have been chosen by many brand owners in the Beauty sector to design and produce their bottles. Our expertise in glass and decoration combined to our desire to always want to push the boundaries, make of SGD, and this year especially, the privileged partner of major and successful launches. We can name for example Lady Gaga Fame whose bottle is manufactured in our factories in France and the U.S.. The black juice of this perfume is enclosed in a bottle with a well defined oval. From the day of its launch, it has won consumers over both for its fragrance and the bottle, more than 6 million units have already been sold!

Also superb this bottle with a thick bottom glass for Florabotanica by Balenciaga which immediately catches the eye. Where we can notice the gently curved base, the distinctive signature of Balenciaga perfumes. Our technicians’ mastery of the glassmaking process is illustrated by repeating the same angle on every vial produced. The decoration of bottles dictates its constraints and challenges the boundaries of surfaces to be decorated. The screen printing of a red solid colour requires perfectly flat and smooth glass surfaces. Decorating chamfers, an area which cannot be decorated in principle, required all the skill of SGD to draw a perfect purple line, all around the bottle.

Third example, the bottle with feminine lines of Manifesto by Yves Saint Laurent is delicately enhanced by a multi-facet amethyst coloured diamond. The glass distribution, the thick base and the well defined edges of the diamond, combined to a purple lacquering designed with two caches, make this bottle a haute couture jewel.

For the launch of Pleats Please by Issey Miyake, we managed to render, starting from the solid glass material, the concept of movement very present in the creator’s lines. The bottle has a complex shape, which requires careful demoulding. The difficulty also stands in the numerous taut edges and flat facets. Decorating on a "tormented" surface requires a perfect anamorphosis and excellent quality of application of pad printing.

Another example of the SGD expertise, to make the bottles glitter in Paco Rabanne’s Absolutely Gold editions, we proposed Puig our interior mirror treatment, compatible with the juice (exclusive to SGD) combined to a gold coating. This technical combination offers a precious metal finish.

Premium Beauty News - The year 2012 also seems marked by a revolution on the side of skincare and haircare products illustrated by the launch of very upscale positioned products.

Valérie Jacob - Absolutely! A phenomenon well illustrated by the Blue Therapy Serum for Biotherm. An intense blue degraded metal lacquering dresses this formula with unique properties.

In its approach towards responsible development, in line with its image of natural efficiency, purity and luxury, Nude chose SGD to protect its delicate formulas.

And you are right, high end hair products are starting to prefer glass. With the Initialiste Serum, its high-end hair treatment, Kerastase chose a weighty thick glass bottle with a gentle metal coating.

Premium Beauty News - This is one of the strong points of your marketing approach and your action at Luxe Pack Monaco, demonstrate that SGD is not only an industrial glassmaker but also and most of all a provider of ideas helping trends to emerge.

Valérie Jacob - And we are illustrating this approach this year with three internationally renowned partners, Givaudan, Rexam and Iléos. We are inviting our customers on a world tour to discover our expertise by offering them four fragrances in a nomadic format (bottles from The Collection Lavande 15 ml), each evoking a country. Each fragrance was created by Givaudan’s assessors, according to the olfactory trends of the concerned country. And each fragrance is subtly translated through the look and touch of the bottles decoration, the techniques used being of course available in the countries represented.

Our customers will therefore be able to spray "A cloud Celadon" from China, "Wafts of creativity" from France, "A breath of colours" from Brazil or "A trail of satin" from the United States, thanks to the XD11 pump designed by Rexam.

Premium Beauty News - This action undertaken with your three partners actually shows your will to anticipate the future.

Valérie Jacob - This operation targeted on Monaco is only actually one aspect of a more comprehensive proactive approach that we are undertaking with our clients to look ahead of the future with them. To study them, we cross consumer profiles with traditions, customs, economic and cultural changes that will result in different expectations in terms of consumption and experience, to which brands will be answering with a suitable offer. From these trends, we anticipate solutions which can serve as the starting point for further reflection, to support our customers in their future success. Hence, for example, travelling, whether it is undertaken for business, shopping or tourism purposes is an integral part of modern life and makes of travel retail a essential distribution network with strong growth, profitability.... and visibility.
