The International Master course on Aging Skin (IMCAS) has just published its yearly report about the world market of surgery and aesthetic medicine for 2014. Despite the recession, Anti-Age products are doing well, with an increase in sales of +14.3%, or a sales revenue estimated at 5.7 billion Euros. Asia registered the highest growth rate with 13.2% followed by Latin America with 8%, then the US with 7% and finally Europe with 6%. In 2019, the US will still represent 44% of the world market, in front of Asia (28%), Europe (18%) and Latin America (10%).

Worldwide, the market for prevention of wrinkles and injections is the largest; and the most common acts performed, whether by Botox on the upper face or with Hyaluronic Acid on the lower part represent 38% of the total revenues. The surprise for 2014 is the growth by +8.2% of dermo-cosmetics, which revealed a popularity substantiated by the relevancy and effectiveness of their latest launchings.

What’s new in the cosmeceutical world? Far from opposing surgery, this key player enables, among other things, offering preventive treatments prescribed by a doctor. In fact, 43% of the patients follow a cosmeceutical treatment in order to prepare their skin to receive their prime intention anti-age treatments (injections, laser…) done by the prescribing doctor. In second line, peelings, fillers and micro dermabrasion are offered to patients. Acquisitions of Obagi, Skinmedica, Neocutis by the pharmaceutical leader groups Valeant, Allergan, Merz show the growing interest in these treatments.

Surfing on the wave of cosmetic medicine and its success with consumers, the latest launchings of dermis-cosmetics combine efficacy with the dimension of pleasure.

In this way, Vichy recently created Idealia Skin Sleep, a nighttime skincare treatment that reinvents the visible effects of skin-repairing deep sleep - an ideal skin upon awaking, even when nights are short. At the heart of the formula: 6 active ingredients, 1 complex and a balm-gel texture. Because even if it is well-known that several short nights accentuate a “tired” look, in the long run, lack of sleep exposes women to premature aging of the skin. This deficiency in sleep disturbs hormone function and upsets biological rhythms.

On its part, L’Oréal Paris has just released Revitalift Volume Filler, which corrects the loss of skin volume and erases the signs of aging. Its formula contains an exceptionally high concentration of re-pulping ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Fibroxyl, which offer effective solutions to thinning skin and loss of volume.

Dr Brandt has launched Needles No More, a relaxing, anti-wrinkle care product with immediate effect that targets muscular contraction to relax the face and smooth expression wrinkles.

However, despite everything, there is still room for those who are comfortable with their age, as illustrated by these 70 portraits of women ages 50 and over in the splendor of their maturity, presented in this magnificent book “Natures de Femmes” by Dr. Philippe Evenou, dermatologist, sponsored by Christian Dior (published by Gourcuff Gradenigo).
