Woodfuels and other carbon-neutral energies account for 75% of the energy used by the Metsä Board factories. For its production, the Finnish company aims to further increase the already high level of biofuels and of er sources of carbon-neutral energies it uses.

Metsä Board’s latest investment in renewable energy was for a bioenergy boiler producing, since October 2012, electricity and heat for the paper and carton mill in Kyro and its surrounding area. Supplied mainly with wood chips and other wood fuels, the plant will reduce its annual emissions of carbon dioxide by about 100,000 tons, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 60,000 cars.

All the production units of Metsä Board have a certified energy efficiency system (EES) and are still looking for ways to improve their performance.
