New Jersey Governor Chris Christie eventually vetoed bill A-3083/SCS S-2178 that aimed at banning tiny polyethylene particles (micro-plastic beads) from cosmetic and personal care products.

Chris Christie, a 52-year-old Republican, said the bill’s penalties (up to USD 10,000 a product per day starting in 2019) could have unintended consequences on small businesses. Governor Christie said it would reconsider his veto if New Jersey lawmakers lessen the proposed punishment.

It’s now up to the Legislature to decide whether to concur with Governor Christie and make the changes, attempt to override his veto, or let the bill die.
