Since their first collaboration in 2000, and up to «Dreamtone» their latest creation, Lancôme have regularly shown confidence in MBF Plastiques’ ability to meet the most demanding requirements. And it is once again the case: this time with Grandiôse, their new mascara with a patented “Swan-Neck” wand and high-precision brush.

Once again, the plastic injection-moulding specialist provided Lancôme with a service incorporating all their skills and expertise. As well as injection moulding the cap, MBF Plastiques was responsible for blow moulding, tampography pad-printing and varnish finishing the flaconette. They also injection moulded the wand holder and the lower part of the wand. The excess wiper and high-precision brush, however, were developed by SIMP.

The cap and its particular finishing were very complex to produce, involving a rose moulded in a material which can be over-moulded, then over-injection-moulded into the cap,” the company explains.

The main difficulty of this operation was the rose, which although very small must appear facing in a very specific direction when the bottle is closed. At the same time, the petals of the flower must be distinct and separate, perfectly reproducing the proportions of Lancôme’s emblematic rose. The different elements must, of course, have invisible injection points and joints.

The development of this product involved a substantial amount of applied research: particularly concerning the best combinations to use between lacquer and varnish in order to provide a high quality finish,” adds MBF.
