The Decree implementing the law banning rinsed off cosmetic products containing solid plastic particles was published in the Official Journal of the French Republic dated March 8, 2017 [1].

The ban was passed last summer in a law on biodiversity protection. The decree confirms that cosmetics containing solid plastic particles will be prohibited to be placed on the French market from the 1st of January 2018.

No cosmetic products placed on the French market after the 1st of January 2018 may contain solid plastic particles capable of generating marine waste. However, there is no obligation to withdraw the products placed on the market before that date.
