Sang Jingmin - China Beauty Expo was founded in 1998 and is now the leading beauty trade show in Asia and China’s most influential trade platform for international cosmetic companies entering the Asian beauty market.

It comprises of three segments:

 Cosmetics China, which is a showcase of skin care, personal care, fragrances, colour cosmetics, and beauty accessories sold through wholesale and retail channels. It is a must-attend event for wholesalers, agents, department stores, supermarkets and cosmetic stores.
 Beauty Shanghai, which focuses on products, equipment and accessories for beauty salons and spas.
 Cosmetech Shanghai, which attracts Chinese and international cosmetic manufacturers, OEM/ODM, as well as domestic and foreign raw material and semi-processed raw material suppliers, packaging suppliers, machinery and equipment manufacturers and distributors.

Last year, China Beauty Expo hosted 6,433 booths, up 12.5 per cent compared to 2013, and 1837 exhibiting companies (+10.9 per cent vs 2013). International exhibitors account for approximately 30% of the exhibitors. They come from 27 countries, including new exhibitors from Australia, India, Israel, New Zealand, Switzerland, UK and USA.

For the next edition, our goal is to add two additional halls of exhibiting companies, to extend our global reach by attracting more international exhibitors and buyers and to invite more internationally renowned speakers for conferences.

Premium Beauty News - Precisely, who are the visitors of the show?

Sang Jingmin - In 2014, we welcomed 252,200 visitors from 80 countries and regions. Retailers including department stores, supermarkets and franchises account for 37.18 per cent of the total of visitors, distributors/agents/importers account for 31.10 per cent. Eventually, manufacturers including R&D and purchasers account for 19.32 per cent, and beauty salon and spa owners represent 12.21% of the visitors.

Sang Jingmin - China Beauty Expo 2015 is commemorating its 20th anniversary this year and it will once again be the gathering point for global industry professionals, covering 140,000 sqm of exhibition area. Over 12 halls, more than 3000 local and international brands will be showcased over 3 days, from 19-21 May 2015, at the Shanghai New International Expo Center.

The main events within the show were designed to deliver the latest and most updated industry information and trends:

 The Asia Brand Building Lab, where designers and international brands will exchange on latest news and trends and that will feature three main sections, namely Online-Retail Congress, Fashion Design Gallery and Trend Conference.
 Beyond Beauty Trends, which consists in a conference program specially designed to showcase upcoming global beauty trends. The exciting lineup of speakers include Beautystreams, Seyco, Firmenich and Pochet.
 The 5th China Cosmetics Retail Summit, which will be held at the Shanghai International Convention Center on 18 May 2015. Over 800 cosmetics chain store owners, managers or executives from supermarkets and department stores as well as the media, will gather to discuss the hot topics in China’s cosmetics industry. The day will be close with the 5th VIP Buyers Gala Dinner.
 Beauty Ingredients & Formulation Shanghai 2015 (BI&F), on 19 May 2015, an event held alongside China Beauty Expo and focusing on raw materials and cosmetic ingredients.
 Eventually, the Mobile Commerce Section / Congress, 19-21 May 2015, a new event where exhibitors in the mobile commerce beauty business will showcase their products on over 20,000 sqm exhibition area, as well as share their expertise at the Congress.

In addition to the wide range of conferences, congresses and summits available at China Beauty Expo, there will also be other exciting show features such as the Meiyi Awards 2015 and the Beauty Challenger Awards 2015.

Premium Beauty News - How is the Chinese cosmetic market evolving?

Sang Jingmin - The Chinese cosmetic retail market is constantly growing. The market reached RMB 334 billion (USD 54.40 billion) in 2013. According to iResearch’s forecast, it was projected to hit RMB 404.41 billion in 2014. The growth rate will be more than 20% for the next 5 years with a market projected to reach RMB 700 billion in 2017.

As far as market trends are concerned, all forecasts announce that facial mask products will remain hot and the competition will be very intense, BB creams are expected to progressively take the place of foundation. Furthermore, the demand for high-end toiletries should increase strongly among Chinese consumers.
