Korean authorities to tighten cosmetic claims control

The Korea Food & Drug Administration (KFDA) said that it is planning to submit to the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs a proposal that would extend the control of claims to additional cosmetic categories, according to press reports.

Whitening, anti-wrinkle care and sun protection products are already subject to stringent controls regarding their efficacy and claims. The proposed law would extend these requirements to skin rejuvenation, acne treatment and weight loss products.

Cosmetic regulations in South Korea have been criticized for a long time by cosmetic manufacturers and by the European commission.
